Attahiru Jega canvasses for eletronic voting

Former INEC Chairman Attahiri Jega has called on the National Assembly to review their decision and ensure they vote in favor of electronic voting. Mr. Jega said the process of electronic voting is actually much more than counting votes. He said INEC already has infrastructure for electronic voting and all that is needed is to improve. Jega said this on AIT Kakaaki as he addresses the Electoral Act Amendment Bill issue.

Mr. Jega said in areas where there are no electricity or where electronic voting cannot be done, it should be done manually. He said it gives the electoral process credibility.

Jega said the concern of many is that the transmission of results can be hacked, he said there are experts who softwares all over that would ensure that does not happen.

The issue of dragging NCC into the issue of INEC transmitting result will create doubt political, especially that NCC is under a minister who is under the presidency. Jega said the decision by the legislatures is not carefully thought out. He said getting NCC involved in INEC affairs will create all sorts of insinuations. Jega said if the legislatures don’t do what they are supposed to do by reviewing their decision then the people would say it is self servicing.
