Meemah Jackson: The unforgetable voice of God

Shehu Yar’adua Center wasn’t full as I expected, probably because the premiere of the movie GOBE was strictly on invitation. I am not a fan of Nigerian movies even though I am a friend of actors and movie makers. I went to the premiere because a friend from News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) extended the invitation to me. I wouldn’t say I regretted going just for one thing, the voice of god, the voice of Meemah Jackson.

Meemah Jackson performing during the premiere of the movie GOBE in Shehu Musa Yar’adua Center, Abuja.

Before the movie we all sat down waiting. To be honest I didn’t think much of it. I have been to hundreds of events like this one around Abuja and I am hardly impressed. Then the MC introduced Meemah Jackson. She walked on stage confidently, she must have done this many times, that confidence isn’t for a rookie. She stood facing the audience and started to sing.

When you see talent everyone bows to it. The audience were quiet and attentive in a matter of seconds as the voice pierced through the hall. It is a voice like no other. It is that type of voice that Simi has, unique, a voice of a star.

When she stopped singing something spiritual that had taken over the hall stopped and as she walked off and away it walked away with her. I stood up and clapped with the audience.

I tried watching GOBE for a while. It is a beautifully made movie featuring two children from Borno who were internally displaced by Boko Haram crisis now living in Jos. These kids can act even in Hollywood. The movie was shot in Jos, Plateau State, and my friends Paul Sambo and Micky Odey featured in the movie. I didn’t wait to finish the movie. On my way out I bumped into Meemah Jackson. I went to tell her how talented she is and slip my card into her hand. Call me. So this is what Meemah Jackson sent to me.

“I’m Meemah Jackson and I’m a singer/song writer. I started music professionally in 2018 after being part of a music reality show “STARDOM NIGERIA.

“I’m from Adamawa state and I’m 23 years old. I’m also the “Dare2dream” season 6 winner of the performing arts category. I sing in the “Afro Soul”, ” Rnb” and “Soul” genres of music. I’m a lover of the African arts and lifestyle. Music is what I want to do for the rest of my life and its my Passion , I sing with all I have and it is felt in my performances.”

She is a final year student of Mass Communication, University of Jos. This lady will go places. I want you all to remember this write up today. With a voice that is gold, I see the brightest of future for a star, a superstar.
