Group faults Gov. Zulum over condolence visit to family of Young man killed during church Demolition

Borno Christian Rights Support Group have faulted Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s visit to pay condolence visit to the family of the young man killed during the EYN Church demolition in Borno.

In a press release to NEWISSUES magazine the group stated that the governor claimed the people who perpetrated the attack that led the murder of Ezekiel are in custody when the man who orchested all of it, Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, Executive Secretary of BOGIS is still working.

“Governor Babagana Umara Zulum paid a condolence visit to the family of Ezekiel who was murdered in cold blood by civilian JTF whom were illegally and in bad faith deployed at the instruction of Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, Executive Secretary of BOGIS, is nothing but window dressing. The said visit is albeit too late, even though the Governor gave reasons for his delay.

“The Governor stated that perpetrators of the heinous act are in custody and, justice will be served without any form of prejudice (sic). This position is disturbing and strange considering the fact that Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, the mastermind of the heinous act is still going about his normal business and occupying the very office he abused by detailing Civilian Joint Task Force for a state function. The Governor never mentioned him, and his body language is clear about shielding him. The question is, will the same axe of justice visit the Executive Secretary of BOGIS? Isn’t that strange to say perpetrators are in custody when Bababe is still occupying his office and going about his normal business? Will the major culprit be exonerated from the crime when his hand is necked dip in?”

The group wondered why the Executive Secretary of BOGIS, the man who gave the order for the illegal demolition that led to the death of Ezekiel was not suspended. They also wondered why Gov. Zulum was using a microphone to talk to the family of the deceased they visited with microphone in such a small space.

“One finds it strange that the governor used a microphone to address the family in a very small apartment, at night for that matter. While his social media minions were busy sharing and posting the visits and even published same on Channels TV and other media houses. This act appears to be a political gimmick and photo ops to bolster his political image and not necessarily mean that he cared,” the group said.

NEWISSUES reported Gov. Zulum’s condelence visit. The demolished church is still being used as a place of worship every Sunday. Governor Zulum have not mentioned if the church will be re-build as advised by Christian Association of Nigeria. A source told NEWISSUES that the government may do it quietly as Gov. Zulum would not want to tarnish his image of governor of everyone.

The press Release below.

Murder of Ezekiel: Governor Zulum’s Condolence visit

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum paid a condolence visit to the family of Ezekiel who was murdered in cold blood by civilian JTF whom were illegally and in bad faith deployed at the instruction of Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, Executive Secretary of BOGIS, is nothing but window dressing. The said visit is albeit too late, even though the Governor gave reasons for his delay.

The Governor stated that perpetrators of the heinous act are in custody and, justice will be served without any form of prejudice (sic). Will the major culprit be exonerated from the crime when his hand is necked dip in?

Ordinarily, without been detailed by the Executive Secretary of BOGIS, the CJTF will not dare the church or participate in a so-called state function, let alone, engage in acts of violence to commit murder. The simple truth, except Governor Zulum takes the appropriate action on Executive Secretary of BOGIS who abused his power and detailed CJTF, as against the police, for a state function, one will be left with no option than let some questions wander in the mind. Questions like: Did the governor order the demolition and approve the modus adopted by Bababe? Is Bababe above the law or an apple of the eye?

It is a known fact that BOGIS is directly under the office of the governor. Was the Executive Secretary on the frolic of his own when he undertook an illegal expedition that can put the state on fire, or he had the approval of his Boss? If he acted alone without approval, then it is time for Governor Zulum to do the needful and prove that he is for all and will not shield any act of crime and insubordination.

The practice over time in Nigeria is that people occupying positions are suspended for investigation to take place. The governor said perpetrators of the murder of Ezekiel are in custody and under investigation. This raises serious concerns seeing that the Executive Secretary of BOGIS is still in office. Was he investigated and cleared or has been pardoned in advance? This is a matter of concern.

The best expression of displeasure of that crime by Governor Zulum will be to suspend the Executive Secretary of BOGIS and hand him over to the police for investigation and prosecution for the crime committed. Until that is done, the Governor is not ready to get justice for Ezekiel.

One finds it strange that the governor used a microphone to address the family in a very small apartment, at night for that matter. While his social media minions were busy sharing and posting the visits and even published same on channels TV and other media houses. This act appears to be a political gimmick and photo ops to bolster his political image and not necessarily mean that he cared.

This charade cannot derail us from pressing home our demands for justice. We cannot be carried away by this political image making outing, as it stands, all that the governor did was to make a statement. We demand justice, not political statement without backing it with actions. Until then, we will keep watching and praying and working. We implore the members our community to continue to be law abiding and avoid any actions that may reversed the gains made in the areas of security of our dear state, Borno.
