Customs seize 29,825 litres of smuggled PMS in Adamawa

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, has intercepted smuggled goods valued at ₦51.9 million, including 29,825 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Other seized items include three vehicles with hidden compartments, second-hand clothing, and dangerous chemicals such as methylene chloride.

At a press conference in Yola, Comptroller Garba Bashir reiterated Customs’ commitment to combating economic sabotage.

He emphasized the need for intelligence sharing among border control agencies to curb the illegal export of petroleum products to Cameroon.

Bashir also urged oil and gas marketers to collaborate in the fight against smuggling, warning that illegal activities threaten Nigeria’s economy.

The Command reported revenue generation of ₦173.6 million in 2024, surpassing its ₦132 million target by 23.97%. This was achieved mainly through the auctioning of seized items, in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

The seized PMS will be auctioned to the public immediately, following standard procedures.

Bashir called on Nigerians and security agencies to support Customs in dismantling smuggling networks and safeguarding the nation’s borders.
