Boko Haram are into farming and trading -Borno residents

People living in Maiduguri and in Borno State have confirmed that farming are going on in areas controlled by Boko Haram and areas that are unsafe for anyone because of the terrorists. Who owns these farms?

Christopher Godwin Akaba, aide time former Governor and now Senator Kashim Shettima, started this discussion with a post on Facebook and the conversation between him and those responding is quite interesting.

Christopher Akpaba wrote:

But farming activities is taken place in areas that are considered too dangerous for our local farmers to access. Who are the owners of these farms? I guess Boko Haram elements. These criminals are also into farming. Most of the fresh foods that find their way into the local markets comes from these Boko Haram farmers or their sympathizers. The people they are terrorising and killing are, unknowingly, buying and consuming their produce, and in return, helping to grow their (Boko Haram) local economies in areas that they still have firm control, especially around the Sambisa forest and some parts of the Lake Chad. What an irony!

JACK VINCE wrote: A soldier once told me “it’s an international trade” going on between Boko Haram and the public.

Mr. AKABA in response to Dr. Abubakar Othman, who wrote that these activities must be investigated wrote: “Boko Haram are also into the smoked fish business around the shores of the Lake Chad. Fish valued in hundreds of billions of naira are stolen yearly from the Lake Chad and sold to only God knows where.”

Mr. Christopher Akaba fears if the Boko Haram decide to poison the food and fish they supply to the public it would be disastrous. But in response, one of the respondent wrote that Boko Haram would not want to jeopardize their business.
