Boss Mustapha’s taskforce on Covid 19 is failing

By George Onmonya Daniel

Boss Mustapha’s Taskforce on Covid 19 is gradually falling apart. This is because nobody is listening to them and complying by the directives of NCDC on how to stop or minimise the spread of Covid 19.

I left Abuja yesterday morning for Jos. I can tell you  an overwhelming of Nigerians as I travelled from the heart of Abuja, passing through parts Nassarawa and Kaduna State until I got to Plateau State, are simply not wearing mask, observing social distancing or even taking the government seriously.

Somehow NCDC and Boss Mustapha’s taskforce lost it along the way with the people.  Have they ever been in full grasp of the situation? I don’t think so. Even at the peak of the lockdown in Abuja, Lagos, Ogun, and later Kano,  interstate travelling were still going on despite all the noise about mobile courts and all, and the government knew about it but didn’t do much or anything about it.

It was the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs who messed up everything for the Taskforce on Covid 19. She completely mishandled the palliative issue and from there most people just concluded that the whole Coronavirus thing was a means to siphone billions of Naira by people in government and many are simply refusing to back down from that perception.

What most people do and this was reported by NEWISSUES Magazine a couple of days ago, was to hang the mask on their chin. That’s for many who carry mask around. Nowadays in Abuja, many have stopped wearing mask, especially in commercial vehicles. Before now everyone carries mask around even if they wouldn’t wear it, but nowadays a lot of people don’t even go out with mask. This attitude is widely spread across the nation.

In a clime where some state governors don’t even believe in the existence of Covid 19 and some don’t take anything seriously, Nigeria still has a long way to go in the battle with Coronavirus.
