concerned borno youth calls for ssg's apology on misleading the state on flood

A concerned Borno youth, Mohammed Algoni, has called on the SSG to apologise to the people after misleading the people on the flood which has resulted to many deaths.

The SSG had earlier stated, “I assured residents that the Dam is not broken. The present conditions do not pose a severe threat to the city, noting that all necessary measures were put in place to control the situation.” However, Algoni and many others feel that this statement undermines the gravity of the situation and the suffering of the flood victims.

Algoni is urging the SSG to take responsibility for his words and apologize to the people of Borno for any confusion or distress caused in a letter to NEWISSUES. He believes that it is essential for leaders to acknowledge the severity of the situation and provide accurate information to the public, especially during times of crisis.

The recent flooding in Maiduguri has caused significant displacement, damage to properties, and loss of livelihoods. Many residents are struggling to cope with the aftermath, and Algoni’s call for the SSG’s apology is seen as a step towards acknowledging their suffering and ensuring that necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Algoni’s call for accountability emphasizes the need for leaders to take responsibility, especially during crises. As Maiduguri recovers from the flood, acknowledging the impact and learning from past actions is crucial. Algoni notes, “I hope that going forward, leaders will provide accurate information to the public, especially during times of crisis.” He stresses the importance of truth and compassion in leadership, affirming that the people of Borno state deserve truth and transparency.
