Did Donald Trump actually call President Buhari?

On 28th April, 2020, several media establishments carried the story that President Donald Trump of the United States made a phone call to President Buhari.

The Cable reported it as:

President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with President Muhammadu Buhari earlier on Tuesday, solidarising with Nigeria over the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Lai Mohammed, minister of information, who disclosed this at the media briefing of the presidential task force on COVID-19, the US president promised to send across ventilators to Nigeria.

Premium Times  reported it as:

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday afternoon received a telephone call from American President, Donald Trump, during which the two leaders commiserated with each other on fatalities in their countries, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

They also shared ideas on how to successfully combat the health emergency.

President Buhari expressed condolences to the government and people of the United States over the fatalities recorded, and equally expressed worry at the high rate of deaths recorded across the world.

The associated negative impacts of the pandemic on the world’s economy also came up for discussion.

The Nigerian President lauded his American counterpart for the various initiatives adopted by his government to contain the further spread of the virus across the United States.

He indicated Nigeria’s readiness to cooperate with the United States to fight this common unseen enemy.

President Buhari informed that Nigeria had taken a number of proactive measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 across the country.

The President welcomed the valuable friendship and expressed appreciation to President Trump for reaching out at this time.

BUT someone called me from the United States doubting the phone call to President Buhari from Donald Trump. The people who spoke on behalf of President Buhari mentioned that President Trump promised to send ventilators to Nigeria. Has he sent the ventilators?

The last time Buhari spoke to President Trump, it was published in the White House website of 15th February, 2015,  but this one was not.

Why was  this recent one not published? Why have we not read that ventilators have been sent to Nigeria from the United States? The fact is that there is no evidence that President Buhari spoke to President Donald Trump. The evidence would have been if the United States send ventilators to Nigeria as the people who told us this story claimed that Donald Trump promised to send them. But then White House has so many problems nowadays, the President is seeking for re-election and the US is down on her knees fighting Coronavirus that President Trump call to President Buhari looks unimportant to them. It’s possible.
