Omoleye Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, presidential candidate, has always called for the toppling of the ruling elites through revolution. Even though he had never explicitly stated it like that, it is cystal. Yet Sowore, as he is simply called, has not been able to galvanise the nation into total support. His supporters are not too many compared to Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Kwankwaso, or President Tinubu. In terms of popularity he is as popular as all of them and has his supporters. Just released from DSS detention, Sowore arrived Lagos airport with hundreds of supporters waiting when he wrote on X that it was reckless seizure of his passport.
He is always at the forefront of calling for protest against the ruling government since President Buhari was in power, ans he had gone to prison, for calling for revolution that the government of Buhari saw as treason. Mr. Sowore left his comfort zone in the United States, his wife and Children, to be part of the change he wants to see in Nigeria. His popularity is slowly growing.
Will he be the next Peter Obi for a country looking for a saviour amidst terrible politicians with history of corruption? Sowore's campaign still has the outlook of student unionists, not a national political movement like Peter Obi.
