The entertainment industry can be as cruel as it is rewarding. The cruelest of it all is putting an individual at the top and suddenly that individual finds him or herself sinking into the bottomless pit of oblivion, broke without money.
The Big Brother show is the biggest entertainment show in Africa. Within days it turns people who are regular folks into household name, superstars, but finally in the three months shows a winner emerges, winning all the prize money.
At least for a year before the next show, the media would be all around the participants, attention focuses on them, but immediately the next show starts, it seems to be over. The media quickly moves on to the new guys. Advert companies quickly turn their attention the newest stars, and the fans who always want something new quickly move on. Fan loyalty is feeble, they move on to something new so easy.
It may not remain the same story for LAYCON, a winner with an amazing musical talent. Since he got out it has been several endorsements, so were some of his BB NAIJA LOCKDOWN mates, but LAYCON has a song on the chart called Hip Hop. He has used the BB Naija platform to sell his artforn and he is good. This is not an EFE who has not been able to make an impact in the music industry as a pidgin English rapper.
LAYCON is a natural. Winning the show and all this endorsements that keeps coming has made him the most successful of the all the BB Naija and African show put together. With the music coming out like Hip Hop, I don’t think this superstar will fade soon after one season, this guy is here to stay for a long long time.
