Nigerians condemn 27b given to N’Assembly for renovation, cutting health, UBE fund

Nigerians have condemned the approval of N27 billion in the budget to the National Assembly for renovation, cutting down health and Universal Basic Education (UBE) votes in the budget.

Kadaria AHMED, popular Nigerian journalist has the above tweet to respond to the FG cuts of health and UBE votes in the budget.

Both the APC leadership of the House of Representatives and the Senate have severally declared that they would approve anything sent by the President Muhammadu Buhari. The senate president categorically started that one time. The President and people around the president played a great role in ensuring they take over the leadership of the National Assembly.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent an urgent appeal to three UN special rapporteurs urging them to use their “mandates to urgently request the Nigerian government and the leadership of the National Assembly to immediately reverse the unlawful, disproportionate and discriminatory budget cuts to education and healthcare, and to stop the authorities from spending N27bn to renovate the National Assembly complex.”

Many Nigerians condemned the N27billion renovation budget when the issue came up, even before the Coronavirus pandemic, and are now outraged that even with the pandemic these politicians prefer renovating their offices to health and education.
