An old video of former governor of Zamfara State, Sani Yerima, which was recorded in 1994 has surfaced on social media.

In this video, a 34 years old Sani Yerima was seen donating a mosque and a school (Islamiyya School) to a village in Sokoto State being usher in to give a speech at the occassion. The man the media nicknamed the Chief Priest of Sharia, told the congregation that the mosque and school he donated was not enough, he said the dream was to see how Sharia Law can be spread all over Nigeria. About seven years later, Sani Yerima who became governor of Zamfara State in 1999, would kickstart Sharia law in Zamfara State, with many copycat governors following his footsteps as Muslims all over Northern Nigeria piled up pressure on their governors to introduce Sharia law as official law of their states.

The Sharia Law would turn into deadly rioting starting from Kaduna and spreading to Jos where thousands were killed. The incessant mayhem would prompt Mamman Ghadafi of Libya to advise Nigeria to divide the country between Muslims and Christians.

Sani Yerima would also declare a fatwa on a This Day journalist, but Muslims across the world quickly distance themselves from such declaration.
