Mr. Ugochukwu Ohuonu also known as 20 Mouth, spoke to George Onmonya Daniel, on his recent appointment as Mayor, from a critics he is now in the center stage of the politics of the Actor’s Guid of Nigeria. He touched a little of that too.
NEWISSUES: YOU were recently appointed Mayor of Abuja Branch of the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria, what are you going to do differently from your predecessors?
TWENTY MOUTH: As the mayor of Abuja, with the support of members I will do many things differently.
First, I will start by compiling a comprehensive database of members, to know how many we are and our individual strengths. This will help in our planing
2. Secure a conducive meeting venue
3. Building a website and create social media handles for the guild
4. Welfare: health empowerment, acting and film support for members, assistance for the elderly in the guild
5. Trainings: liaise with film makers and organisations to provide trainings for members.
6. remodel our weekly sports and the mayors cup
7. Organize mini film festival, retreats, awards and other events including registering for international film festivals
8. Content creation: we are going to produce movies, skits, sitcoms and series, build new Stars
9. Collaborate with ngos, government and private stakeholders to carry out social change campaigns.
NEWISSUES: There have been issues pertaining the constitutionality of the Mayor position that was changed by the president Emeka Rollas, which I am aware you even contested when the predecessor was first appointed. Do you no longer have qualms with it now that you are a beneficiary?
TWENTY MOUTH: It is normal for any one to question something new be it a positive or negative change but as you know, in democracy majority will always have their way. Currently, it has been voted into law by 2/3 of the majority at the congress for over two years of which I am obliged to support. Hopefully at the next constitutional review we will try to share our thoughts for a possible review.
NEWISSUES: What can you say have been the problems with AGN Abuja, as a man who has something to say always about how to change things, what should we expect in the next 100 days?
TWENTY MOUTH: The problem of AGN Abuja is that we are doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get a different results. Within the next 100days I will be working to ensure there is a comprehensive database of members, secure a conducive meeting venue, rebranding, build a website and create social media handles, capacity training, and health empowerment for members because they need a sound health to work.
NEWISSUES: Some people have overtime accused AGN Chairman, Mayor and even the president of using AGN for their personal use and interests instead of their members, how are you going to ensure you are not accused of the same?
TWENTY MOUTH: No matter what you say, people will surely have something to talk about. But for me, I am kin to a running a transparent government that carries everyone along.
