“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.”–Mark Twain

A lady has reportedly beating up her own mother because a Pastor told her that her mother is a witch. This of course is not the first incident of its kind. In 2012, a beautiful young girl Comfort Sunday almost lost her life in Nassarawa State after her father attacked her with acid because a Pastor told him his daughter was a witch and that she was responsible for the family misfortunes.

Although Comfort survived the savage attack, she was left severely disfigured. A women’s NGO had to mobilise funds to fly her to India for cosmetic surgery. She could have died or gone totally blind as a result of the wicked attack based on the baseless allegation that she was a witch.

Quacks are harmful to humanity because of the gullibility of the people. Quack doctors are no less dangerous than pseudo men of God who put innocent people at risks base on fake suspicion. A genuine man of God shouldn’t incite physical violence against innocent people for what he he has no knowledge of.

How can someone convince you that your own daughter is responsible for your own misfortune. We are in a society where people don’t take responsibility for their own choices in life. You can’t be a gambler or a drunkard and blame your daughter for your miserable life just because one so-called man of God put that idea into your head.

The problem is not the religion; the problem is worshipping leaders blindly and believing their opinions uncritically, thereby committing atrocities on account of such adoration. Fake pastors play on your fears and you act out their evil script by attacking innocent people who have nothing to do with your own misfortune. Religion has become a tool for the manipulation of people’s ignorance, gullibility and credulity.
