President Buhari’s mental health is questionable, By George Onmonya Daniel

In this photo released by the Nigeria State House, Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari looks on during a broadcast to the Nation at the Presidential palace in Abuja, Nigeria, Monday, Aug. 21, 2017. Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari said his government will reinvigorate its campaign against the Islamic extremist insurgency in the country's northeast as he spoke to the nation for the first time Monday after returning from London where he spent more than three months for medical treatment. I don’t know why almost everyone is keeping silent on the President’s complete disappearance from public and from talking to Nigerians that sometimes it seems we have no president. President Buhari only appears and disappears when he is compelled to address the nation and most times he is pressured to by public opinion, some of the appearances are even recorded and not live as we saw during the COVID 19 lockdown.

It is quite clear that his handlers are deliberately keeping him away from the people. Most times he comes out to talk on his own, he has committed blunders and said things that embarrassed his own administration. He doesn’t seem to be in grasp of his own responsibilities. When he handed over his job to late Abba Kyari, his Chief of Staff, even asked that his ministers should not bother him but take all their complains to Abba Kyari, who would handle it, it seemed clear something is not right.

Now let’s go back a little to the 2019 Presidential Campaign and that Presidential Dabate. We saw a completely disoriented President Buhari who seems not to know what is even going on in the country as he was being questioned by Kadaria Ahmed, the anchor of that interview. She had to cut off Vice President Yemi Osinbajo from answering for his boss. You don’t need a psychologist or a psychiatric to tell you something seems profoundly not right with the president’s mental health.

How can you preside over a nation where people are being killed daily like Nigeria and you don’t seem to care? People have no access to you exception of a small circle of family and friends who surround you. You just refused to talk to the people through the media. Anytime there is an incident, Garba Shehu or Femi Adesina quickly scribble some note and post on social media for the media, most times quickly written that you just know the president or any president, wouldn’t have approve those press releases.

There are so much signs that should make us ask for the mental health of the president, but we have failed to do so. Recently there was a gunshot in Aso Rock. The story was that the president’s wife tried to stopped his nephew and Special Assistant from seeing the president after Tunde Sabiu traveled to Lagos as she insisted on 14 days isolation from her husband to prove he has no Coronavirus. Why is the wife taking the law into her hands to protect her husband. I recall after the burial of Abba Kyari, Buhari’s Chief of Staff, It was the First Lady who also ensured some people keep away from the Villa.

All these are signs that the president cannot take care of himself and needs to be taken care of and protected from people. That’s what Aisha Buhari has continued doing since he became president and she came out to say he has been hijacked by the cabal.

President Buhari’s government is being ripped apart by corruption and accusations of corruption and the whole nation is waiting for the president to stand up for once and take action, stand up and do something drastic, but the man has remained silent and nonchalant about the whole drama. It doesn’t also show everything is normal with him.

Look at the recent response on sacking his underperforming military chiefs. Did the president approve that? I doubt much. Does he know the numbers of people being killed in the country all these while? The apathy in which he respond to all of these doesn’t seem normal.

This write up may seem like speculation, but if you are watching what’s going on around the president, his actions and inactions, you would definitely sit back and ask the same question. Did the health problem that kept him for months in London affected his brain?
