Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has so far outperformed the previous movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Love and Thunder, in terms of advance ticket sales. The much-awaited sequel to Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther and the last film in Phase 4 is Wakanda Forever. In addition to having to make a sequel that measures up to the standards of an Academy Award-nominated picture, the movie also had to contend with the devastating real-life death of star Chadwick Boseman.
The film is finally scheduled to hit theatres, and early ticket sales indicate that Marvel Studios could be in for yet another huge smash. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had $45 million in advance ticket sales as of Sunday, November 6. This is greater than Thor: Love and Thunder but a little less than Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from earlier this year. According to THR, the total advance ticket sales by Friday could be $60 to $65 million, which would surpass the $55 million Black Panther made in advance ticket sales last year. Later, it had a $202 million debut weekend.
The third MCU film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is scheduled for release in 2022 and might have the highest opening weekend of the three. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is likely to surpass Thor: Love and Thunder’s opening weekend total of $144.2 million. The film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which debuted with $187.4 million in its first weekend and earned $90 million on its first day, will be its strongest rival. Currently, it is 2022’s largest opening weekend. The tracking for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever indicates an opening of roughly $175 million, but once the weekend begins, it may surpass that amount.
The opening weekend of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be watched closely to see if it increases or decreases slightly from the original film’s record-breaking debut. The sequel has a solid possibility of being one of the most profitable MCU films, even if its box office performance isn’t as strong as the first Black Panther. While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may be trailing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in terms of advance ticket sales, this does not take into account or account for people who wait in line or walk up to the ticket counter the weekend before the film’s debut. The advantage of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s holiday weekend release Veterans Day is on November 11, thus there might be a bigger rise in audience participation, which could boost the movie’s opening weekend results.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may be able to take the title of November’s highest opening weekend if its opening weekend earnings surpass those of Thor: Love and Thunder. The current record is held by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which debuted in 2013 at $158.1 million. It’s safe to assume that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hold the record for the biggest November opening of all time and perhaps the biggest opening weekend of 2022 given the MCU’s and the Black Panther franchise’s enormous fan bases.
