students react to fumigation in primary school in oturkpo

A 9 years old primary school student of St. Augustine Primary School, Igbanomaje, Otukpo, Benue State, fainted this morning in class in reaction to chemical used to fumigate the school against insects. The school that has no first aid or any medical outfit, rushed her to the chemist.

Many students couldn't breath because of the strong smell of the chemical. When other schools asked their pupils to stay home, this particular school did not. News reaching NEWISSUES has it that the Head Mistress has finally asked all students to go home.

If not for the intervention of Mr. Jerome Orinya, who has a NGO, that takes care of children, she would have probably not survived. Mr. Orinya insisted she is rushed to a hospital, which he personally did.

The Head Mistress was not in the school premises when the incident happened. No staff member accompanied the little girl to the hospital.

NEWISSUES tried to reach the head mistress but her WhatsApp isn't going through. She has not also responded to our chat.

Other primary schools shut down their school after the fumigation by the local authority.

She is respondinb to treatment.
