Three States with the worst governors in Northern Nigeria as reported by a poll conducted by NEWISSUES are among the poorest states in Nigeria. This is according to a report by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics.
These states include Sokoto, which topped the list with the poverty headcount rate of 87.73%, Jigawa with 87.02% and Niger State with 66.11% on the list. Kaduna State Governor who is also among the worse governors in the North didn’t do much for his people in terms of poverty alleviation. With 43.48% headcount for poverty, Kaduna State is still beyond national average in the poverty index list.
Benue and Kogi who topped the list of the worse Governors, but are not among the worse hit state by poverty in the north. Benue headcount for poverty is 32.9% with Kogi’s as 28.51%.
Kogi State and Benue State governors joined the list of the worst governors in Northern Nigeria because both governors refused to pay civil servants their salaries for over a year, heading to two years in their first tenure. Kaduna State Governor joined the list in the poll for supervising over a state where people are being killed and he refuses to take it seriously.
These report from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics shows that polls conducted by NEWISSUES is very credible.
